ONE step forward …
You know the old saying: One step forward, two steps back. Well, as we look out the window and see piles of that cold, white precipitation and hear the roars of snowplows running through the neighborhood, we’re reminded of how true that is. Just a few days ago, it was blissfully warm (by Minnesota-winter standards) . . . in the 40s! It felt great and, dare I say, it felt like a touch of Spring.
Well, such is life . . . we take a big step forward – kicking a bad habit, being extra patient, managing our time well, releasing worry about the future . . . and then, the storm comes again. We find ourselves right back where we started, with an extra snowpile of guilt for having slid down the proverbial hill.
We’re forced to stand up, brush ourselves off and brave yet another harsh reality: we’re not in control of every situation. But, we are in control of our thoughts, and sometimes it just takes a reminder of a simple positive thought such as “I am loved,” or “I can do all things through Christ” to begin to shift the direction of our day.
Clear the path of your day by staying focused on what you know to be true – you are wise, capable and beautiful, just by being you. And as you’re making your way through your to-do list, take a glance back at the amount you’ve already pushed aside – and feel good about that. The mountain doesn’t disappear all at once, but results follow hard work, one shovel-full at a time.
