Girls’ shoes for my boy?

MckMama hosts No! Not Me! Monday at her site. I always get a kick out of it and had a suitable post for today. Click over there to see what others are NOT doing.

My sons started soccer practice on Saturdays. I did NOT cringe at the thought of having to sit through two hours of little boy soccer instruction. I did NOT roll my eyes when my husband asked me to look for soccer cleats for them. I welcome the opportunity to shop and always want my children prepared for their activities. I did NOT wait until the day before practice to start looking. Fortunately, there’s a second-hand shop just down the street and my littlest and I stopped there after preschool to look. I found a pair for my 7 year old right away! I look through the bins, hoping I’d score a pair for my 5 year old – no such luck. I did NOT wish his feet were a size smaller and did NOT ask him to try on a pair,
“just in case they run big.”

After not finding a suitable pair, I did NOT have the audacity to look in the girls’ bins. I did NOT find a pair of black Nikes that were his exact size. I did NOT show him how cool they were, despite the pink swoosh on the side. I did NOT tell him we would just color the designs and they would be perfect. He did NOT then tell the saleslady the exact same thing. She raised an eyebrow at me, but I just smiled.

We got home, grabbed our Sharpies – silver (& black for any mistakes) and fixed the shoes. Girls’ shoes for my boy? NO! Not me!
