WHAT'S YOUR GIFT?

small world

This afternoon, I was on Twitter and decided to click on Tyler Braun’s post, which included some cool links of the week. I read the list, clicked through to a few that interested me and landed on one that I just loved. It was a music video of Aaron Ivey, who is a musician and he and his wife are adopting a little boy from Haiti – Amos. He wrote a song about the experience and I was moved by the music, message, video and emotion. What was equally as cool was that at the very moment I was watching, the Ivey family was on route to the airport to pick up Amos. I then eagerly looked at the tweets of Aaron and his wife, Jamie as they welcomed their little guy – twitpics and all.

That’s one of the neat things about Twitter – we get to “twitness” some of these unique and beautiful moments that people are willing to share with others. I don’t know this couple, or this little boy or his story, but I found myself smiling ear to ear and hoping a great big HOPE for them.

An hour later, while making valentines with my daughter, I received an email. I checked to see if it was important and it was an udpate from some acquaintances of mine here in Minnesota. One of the ministries we started supporting in December is HealingHaiti.org. Again, long before the earth shook there, we had our focus, our prayers and some of our dollars aimed in that direction.

Of course, when the quake hit, I immediately thought of Alyn & Jeff Gacek, who had just returned on the 9th from one of their Haiti missions. They have done some amazing work there and I couldn’t imagine what they might be going through, knowing the land and people they just left, were impossibly changed.

Jeff returned to Haiti shortly after learning of the quake. I’ve been reading his updates and praying for him and his efforts there. However, this update caught me off-guard and had me shaking my head in utter disbelief. It gave me another glimpse into the interconnectedness of our world through God.

Jeff said in his UPDATE that he was staying with a missionary couple from Minnesota, who had taken in some children who were going to be adopted in the U.S. I scrolled down as I read and came to a picture of a boy that looked so familiar – Jeff said he was rooming with two little boys, one who was named Amos – who was on his way to be adopted by a family in Texas. Yep. Same darling boy.

I just lowered my jaw in amazement of how big our God is and how truly small our world can be.

I feel I’m supposed to know about this little boy and his story and will be anxious to hear more about him in the future. Praying for the Ivey family and the Gaceks.

Small world, huh?

I am so inspired by seeing the help that is being offered in Haiti. I have found several stories that left me in awe. Our Lord is doing so much there. He takes awful things and turns them into good. Praise His Holy Name!
